Research Status

Dr. Liu attends the projects supported by China 973 Program and China National Science Foundation. He is focusing on the complex dynamics problems such as mechanical behaviors of material and structures under strong impact loading which has application background in aerospace and aeronautics engineering, national defense engineering, mechanical engineering and many other engineering disciplines. He is aiming at constructing new types of numerical methods with high accuracy, high efficiency and good stability, proposing multiscale methods, and developing large-scale numerical analysis procedures.

Honors And Awards

Natural Science Award of China Ministry of Education, 2nd level, 2009 (Ranking 2nd in all the awardees)

Academic Achievement

Dr. Liu proposed a series of methods with high efficiency and high accuracy focusing on the construction of discretized equations, numerical integration, and boundary conditions treatment of meshfree methods. He proposed smoothed molecular dynamics (SMD), which can employ a time step size one order higher than that of traditional molecular dynamics (MD). He developed MD-SMD multiscale method to enlarge the available time scale of molecular simulation. He independently implemented extended finite element method (XFEM) in the large-scale finite element procedure DYNA3D, and analyzed a series of dynamic fracture problems with strong non-linearity successfully.

Dr. Liu have published 14 journal papers, 9 of which are indexed by SCI database. He published one monograph, which was the first one in the research field of meshfree methods. All of his publications have been cited by others for more than 60 times in SCI database.
